It started with one question, in one Laos hostel — why does this take so long?

It started with a question

Jeep works the front desk at a hostel in Laos. One night, after every guest was checked in, she looked at the stack of forms in front of her and said: "Why does this take so long?"

Her day was the easy part — welcoming travelers, calling rooms, telling people where to eat. The check-in itself took a couple of minutes. The work that crushed her shift came after: a pile of government-required paper forms, one row per guest, every detail copied out of the passports by hand.

Long tables. Dozens of rows. Tiny boxes. Name, passport number, date of birth, nationality — one guest at a time, in pen, on official forms. Most nights it took two or three hours.

That was time she didn't get to spend with guests, or with Afufu, her golden retriever waiting at home.

So she asked the obvious question: "What if a phone could just read the passport?"

What Jeep saw

The question stuck. Jeep wasn't the only one — staff at every hostel and guesthouse in town spent their evenings the same way, on the same forms.

She wanted check-in done in minutes, not hours, so the rest of her shift could go back to the real job: talking to people, helping them figure out their trip, running a hostel that feels like a place to stay and not a paperwork pipeline.

And, yes — more time for Afufu.

Shadow Checkin started here. A phone that reads the passport. A form that fills itself. A police report you can print at the end of the night in one tap. Time you get back.

What we're trying to do

Make check-in something staff finish, not something they survive

Replace the nightly paperwork with one tap to print

Keep small properties compliant without growing the back office

Give the front desk back the time that belongs to guests (and dogs)

Shadow — the assistant working with your front desk

Meet Shadow

Shadow is the assistant working alongside your team — not replacing them. It reads passports, watches your bookings inbox, drafts the nightly police report, and quietly remembers how your property runs. Your staff teach it. It gets better at your way of doing things, not somebody else's.

A simple promise

Shadow Checkin is built for the front desk, not the boardroom. It will stay fast, stay quiet, and stay out of your way. Every feature has to earn its place by making your day shorter — not your screen busier.
